Online design platform with an AI image generator in the editor

Canva is a browser-based design platform. Its AI image generator turns a prompt into an image on the page, in the style and aspect ratio the user picks, and the image can be placed straight into a design. A free start is offered.

Canva combines templates and editing for presentations, social posts, print, websites, videos, photos and PDFs in one browser app. Its AI image generator is part of the editor, so a generated image can go directly into a layout. The site also lists whiteboards and a Magic Layers tool that turns an image into an editable layout.

The homepage offers a free start through its Start designing for free call to action. Image generation is one feature of a design editor rather than a dedicated generator, so it suits images that belong inside a finished layout. Midjourney, which is in this ranking, suits image-only work more closely.
