Self-hosted team chat for private cloud and air-gapped networks

Mattermost is an open-source team chat platform from Mattermost, Inc. It is built for self-hosting, private cloud and air-gapped networks, and its source code is published under AGPL-3.0. Paid Enterprise editions add features for regulated organizations.

Mattermost is a team messaging platform for chat channels, direct messages and automation. Its site describes it as zero-trust collaboration and automation for private cloud, self-hosted and air-gapped environments, and it lists an Enterprise Advanced edition for multi-domain secure operations. Developers can extend it through its platform and apps.

The source code is published, and the company licenses it under AGPL-3.0 or a commercial license for its Enterprise products. Self-hosting is the main reason to choose Mattermost, since the company's own pages focus on government, critical infrastructure and regulated firms. Compared with Slack, it asks more of the IT team, but the organization keeps control of the server and the data.
