How we rank

The scoring method behind every list on listme.name: editorial scores, stated criteria, how facts are checked, and the exact rule for products connected to the publisher.

Last updated Oct 10, 2026

Every ranking on listme.name follows the same rules. This page states them in full, including the one that affects the publisher's own products.

Scores

Each product on a list has an editorial score from 0 to 100, written for that list. It reflects how well the product serves a typical reader of that category against the criteria shown on the list (for example storage and privacy, platform coverage, price and free-plan limits). The same product can score differently on different lists, because the question differs.

Rough bands: 88 to 96 is the best choice for most readers of that category, 78 to 87 is strong, 68 to 77 is solid for a specific need, 55 to 67 is usable with caveats. No product scores above 97, and no two products on a list share a score.

Scores are judgments, not measurements. They are not benchmarks, user ratings or survey results, and nothing on the site is described as one.

Order

Lists are ordered by score, highest first. That is the whole rule for every product that is not connected to the publisher.

Connected products

The publisher builds, works on or takes part in some of the products listed on the site: their own projects, the projects of their employer, and projects of people they work with. These are marked with an asterisk wherever they appear and are named on the disclosure page. They are scored on the same criteria as everything else, by the same method. A clearly better product ranks above them. They also receive two published adjustments when a list is ordered:

  1. A lift of 4 points is added to a connected product's score for ordering only. The score shown is always the editorial score.
  2. A placement floor. If a connected product's editorial score is at least 68, it is not placed lower than rank 5 on that list, as long as the product it would pass there has an editorial score no more than 15 points higher. Only one product per list can be lifted this way. A connected product scoring below 68, or more than 15 points behind the product at the floor, gets the lift only.

In practice a connected product can sit a few places above where its score alone would put it; a product that scores more than the lift higher still ranks above it, except where the floor applies. The same ordering is used on filtered pages, alternatives pages and comparison pages. Connected products are never described as independent.

Facts and prices

Product facts (platforms, price model, open-source status, license, features) are taken from vendors' own pages, public repositories and well-established public record, and each product page shows the date its entry was last reviewed. Where a detail could not be confirmed it is left out or described qualitatively. Prices are described as models and limits ("free plan with paid upgrades") rather than exact figures, because exact prices change faster than a directory can follow. Always confirm the current price on the vendor's page.

Lists, filters, alternatives and comparisons

  • A list covers the products a reader of that category should consider in 2026, including the market leaders, the strongest free option and the strongest open-source option where they exist.
  • Filtered pages (free, open source, a platform) reuse the list's scores and appear only when at least 3 products qualify.
  • Alternatives to a product are the other products that share a list with it, ordered by score with a small bonus for appearing on several shared lists.
  • Comparisons exist for pairs among the top 6 of a list and use the list's scores, specs and verdicts.

What is not included

listme.name has no paid placements, no advertising and no affiliate links at the time of writing, and vendors cannot pay to be listed or ranked higher. If that ever changes it will be stated here and on every affected page before it takes effect.

Updates and corrections

Lists are revised when products change materially, and the date shown on a list is the newest date any of its products was checked. If you find an error, use the contact form; corrections are verified against the vendor's page.
